Ayun, O! series by Bong Oris

 

Ayun, O! is a series of five newly written children’s books by Bong Oris—Ayun, O! Pasukan Na!, Ayun, O! Bakasyon Na!, Ayun, O! Handaan!, Ayun, O! Laro Tayo!, and Ayun, O! Sorpresa!.

These children’s books feature Filipino words with their corresponding translations to local dialects. Among are Cebuano, Ilocano, Bikol, Kapampangan, Hiligaynon, and Chavacano.

 

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Glenda Callanta Oris, also known as “Bong,” is the former president of Kuwentista ng mga Tsikiting (KUTING) and is a current professor of Humanities at Ateneo de Manila University. She has written several children’s books since 2011.

Ms. Bong obtained her degree BS Computer Science at Ateneo de Manila University. Eventually, she took up her Master’s degree MA Philosophy at the same school. She is presently taking her Doctorate degree Ph.D. Philippine Studies at the University of the Philippines—Diliman.

Among her famous works are Whuush! (Adarna House, 2011) and Ang Madyik ni Paolo/Paolo’s Magic (Lampara Books, 2013). Her short story Ang Madyik ni Paolo won Second Prize in the 2001 Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature. She also penned a number of creative nonfiction pieces and poems that appeared in newspapers, magazines, and anthologies. Aside from reading, writing, and translating children’s literature, she also enjoys working with museums and promoting heritage conservation.

In Ayun, O! series, Ms. Bong worked with pioneering illustrators in the creative industry namely Abi Goy, Ray Nazarene Suñga, Frances Alcaraz, Kora Dandan-Albano, and Angela Taguiang.

 

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATORS

Abi Goy is an illustrator and a graphic designer. She likes to read and collect children’s books. She also likes travelling. She is one of the founders of design company Studio Dialogo, a boutique design studio based in the Philippines. Abi has illustrated Ayun, O! Bakasyon Na!.

Ray Nazarene Suñga is an advertising creative and designer. Some of his books were awarded by Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) and the Catholic Mass Media Awards. He is a member of Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK). He has illustrated Ayun, O! Handaan!.

Frances Alcaraz has already illustrated more than 20 children’s books. Some of these books were published in other countries and were translated into different languages. Frances is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SBCWI) and was a former president of Ang INK. She has illustrated Ayun, O! Laro Tayo!.

Kora Dandan-Albano has illustrated more than 40 children’s books published in the Philippines and in other countries. She obtained her degree Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at University of the Philippines—Diliman. Like most illustrators in the Philippines, she is also a member of Ang INK. Some of her works are Ang Alamat ng Ampalaya, Pilandok series, and All About the Philippines. She is also the author of Habulan, an Anvil Picture Poetry book. She has illustrated Ayun, O! Pasukan Na!.

Angela Taguiang is a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. She is also a member of Ang INK. Ayun, O! Sorpresa! is her first book published by Anvil Publishing.
